the day after surgeries
I called the vet the evening of the day of surgery,
because whenever Penny tried to pee, she'd cry. She also wouldn't drink
any water.
The vet told me that this was normal, but to watch
her close for the next few days and if she wasn't better by the next afternoon
to bring her back to see him.
We were relieved that she started drinking water and peeing
without crying by midnight that night.
Due to the spaying surgery, we had to go back on her puppy schedule for "potty training." of going outside every hour during the night and going outside every few minutes during the day. Within a week or so, her time in between needing to go outside increased to normal for her age. 1 hour for each month of age, plus 1 hour and a bit longer at night.
After her surgeries, I was afraid that too much lifting & putting her down on the floor and the way she desperately struggles to get back our attention, might cause her some problems. So, when she started getting too nippy & wound up, I started using the 'time-outs' in her crate. I figure it was better to do one lift and careful placing in her crate. I let her out after about 15 minutes and amazingly enough, it seems to have helped. She now seems to know the difference between 'time-outs' and 'bed-time'.
In the mornings when the dew was on the lawn and when the lawn was wet from rain, I carried her out to the potty-zone in the yard instead of letting her walk. I was afraid the wetness might give her an irritation or infection from her surgeries.
When she got her stitches removed from her legs from having her dew claws removed, she had a bit of infection where the stitches were. (I'm glad I carried Penny when the lawn was wet because the infection might have been worse.) They put her on an antibiotic and she was fine within a few days.
